THE RICHMOND-FIRST CLUB
Citizens concerned with the study and improvement of metropolitan Richmond
area government.
Founded in 1919, the objective of the Richmond-First Club was to make the
city first in local government. The Club would be a permanent organization
which could inform the public and political leaders about issues and possible
solutions. In 1948 the Club helped change the city government from a cumbersome
32 member bicameral structure to its present 9 member council with a mayor
and city manager. Today, in 2003, the Club is concerned about good government
for the entire Richmond metropolitan area.
You may contact the Richmond-First Club by getting in touch with the
appropriate Board member (Membership, Programs, Committees, etc.); see
the list of Club Board members and officers.
The Richmond-First section is maintained by Lou Dean, a Past-President
of the Richmond-First Club and still a current member. Lou is also on the
staff of WRVA-Radio in Richmond.
